This oven has forever changed the pizza nights at the Smokejumper base. We hold many meals together and pizza night is fast becoming our favorite. (BBQs are also pretty popular). The Champion heats quickly with just a small fire and bakes wonderful pizza, we've also found it useful for vegetables and bread. Using wood for fuel is a unique throw back and fits well with the lifestyle at the base. The oven heats to 800°F in a very short time and we let the stones on the base heat for 30 minutes to an hour. The Champion takes a little more tending to than your home oven does, but the leopard spotted crust and gooey melted and slightly browned toppings are worth the extra vigilance. West Yellowstone Smokejumper Base is a small Forest Service Fire Center base located in the Madison River valley near Yellowstone National Park. The base consists of nearly 30 Wild Land firefighters who parachute into our forests to suppress Wild Fire.
